Hope you don't mind me chipping in with my efforts.

The ornament was taken at f2.8, iso400, .1s
My version of the steel rule was taken at f2.8, iso500, .125s

Feel free to criticise as this is my first attempt at DoF photo's

Re: DoF (Depth of Field Photos)
Lovely! Spike that is bang on.

Shots of a ruler, like that, never fail to impress. The model works well, too.

Heightened depth of field shots are not that easy and I can see you have been beavering away with your camera.

I had a fairly good look at the fz45 in a shop. And I tried out the method of manual focus. Mind you with the GE X5 I have no manual focus and the auto focus does not always "behave" for me.

I think you are finding that autofocus mostly works for you. Am I right?

Yes I find the autofocus very good on the FZ45 Geof, and thanks for your encouraging comments.

John, I have just been looking at the full size version of your friends Duracell battery shot.

And I must say, Ffffrhh!

Did he do that with a macro lens on a dslr, by any chance?

That's good enough to blow quite few brains away!

It's more sharp than horseradish source!!

The FZ45 should be one of the best cameras to learn on. From a traditional standpoint having manual focus is important, although the FZ45 does not have the traditional rotatable lens barrel type of focus. So using it requires you to read up on the manual and and getting your head around it.

Although one does not need to use it that often, it is fun to be able to slide the focus backwards and forwards!

Re: DoF (Depth of Field Photos)
You can adjust manual focus on the FZ45 using the rear dial and/or the cursor buttons. I'll have to practice using it because there are certain circumstances where it could be very useful.

I applied spot sharpening around the facial area with a brush in the Gimp. Macro mode with GE X5; Exposure 0.033 sec (1/30); Aperture f/4.7; Focal Length 25.7 mm; ISO Speed 432.

Obviously more impressive results could be achieved with dslr kit, including an appropriate lens. So their is no golly gosh moment, here. But not bad for the GE X5, either.
