DoF (Depth of Field Photos)
All,

I was recently impressed with a very good friend of mine's DoF shot (He's a real real top Amateur)

So I wanted to start to play with my own attempts. Feel free to laugh.

Re: DoF (Depth of Field Photos)
HI John,

Good choice of topic and good photos!

If I may, I would like to re-link your thumbnails to the largest available versions of the shots (available in the "Actions" drop-down menu on Flickr).

I may be able to try some editing on your shots and see if I can alter them, too. If they come to anything, I'll show them.

Hi Geoff,

Do whatever you want my friend, not a problem. I'll keep plugging away on this one.

Re: DoF (Depth of Field Photos)
Hi John,

That's the spirit. Super zooms are less good at accentuating depth of field effects and I will use my GE X5. But I really do think this is an excellent challenge for everyone and at all levels.

First I introduce the novel apple peeler; Helena was the photgrapher. Second I do the macro shot for heightened depth of field effect (1/20s; F 3.0; ISO 64)

Hi Geoff,

Hope you have not got too wet today, unlike me!

Thanks to your Helena for her work on those images. You really cracked it with that one. I love it!

More to aspire too.

Thanks Geoff

Re: DoF (Depth of Field Photos)
Yes, I was at friend's place, yesterday. I have had this apple peeler under observation for a long time... it is one of those things you have to get your hands on, isn't it?

For the present assignment, I had to think of what to focus on. The spiral of the cam, I guess, was inevitable. But brainstorming and experimentation on the subject will usually come through in the results. Standing it on an upturned saucepan was suggested to me. It is a well engineered and whacky piece of equipment and is definitely eye catching.

My friend's daughter and granddaughter had dropped in, from next door. Helena likes cameras a lot; and I offered up the camera. I had suspected I was going to be able to get her to take some birthday boy shots! But actually we got about nine shots of every one, altogether; and this morning I resized them into small samples, compressed the folder and emailed them over.

So, I had some help with this photo shoot.

Geoff

BTW. I think the ruler shot above is one the stronger inspirations for this shot.
