Did a bit of post processing in Gimp

RE: Flower
I tried to get the shot right with the camera but looking at it today I thought that the petals and stem of the flower might be better with a bit of blur

I think I do prefer the original though

thanks for you comment Gerry much appreciated Smile

If you're going to do a DOF shot then do it with the camera.
whilst I agree 100% there are times especially with bridge cameras when this is difficult.
I think the problem here is that you have gone to far with the blur and used the same amount for all areas around the flower, whilst in reality the blur would differ from say the leaves to the background.
But its not a bad attempt and looking at the flower you have marked around it well -I'm assuming you used the polygonal tool ?

Thanks cyb your comments are always helpful

My thinking was that in the original picture the leaves are sharper than the background and that by applying the same amount for all areas around the flower there would still be a difference in the blur from the leaves to the background,. Maybe I used too much blur.

I used the paths tool in Gimp to select around the flower (I don't know if that's the same as the polygonal tool).

Just thought I would show this one. It is my most intricate piece of selective blurring and sharpening.

Alias Geoff Slocock.
