RE: portrait
Hi,

I think your technique is developing nicely. There are always, it seems, improvements that can be made. So another member may able to do some pointing out.

Often portraits, especially of women, have a soft appearance built in to them. But the tone you have here may be appropriate. So we shall see what others say.

Geoff

BTW. A Merry Christmas, to you.

Geoff

RE: portrait
I know, Gerry, that a lot of people feel that way about portraits. But I reckon the face is most important.

More generally, emphasis can be given if we crop right in, on whatever subject. The trimmed out parts don't necessarily throw us, as onlookers.

Think for example of portraits of people wearing hats.

Geoff

RE: portrait
going back to the original photo I have to agree with Gerry about the missing top of his head, plus I think the use of flash has spoilt the picture on his face and the wall behind, if you can try to diffuse it or bounce it of the ceiling or a side wall.
Have you used a high pass filter on this photo or is this an in-camera filter? Whilst it is 'in vogue' to show all the lines of some peoples faces I'm nor sure it has worked here?

RE: portrait
Thank you for advice, I will keep that in mind for the next time (I don't like to reprocess the picture, just make it how I feel on the moment)!
About the missing the top of the head - it is an instant shot, not cropped, so cannot be repaired!
