a few pics
As i am new to this please feel free to tell me what changes I could have made when taking these pics. These are probably some of the better photos I have taken. I have not yet edited them in any way.
Many thanks ![]() ![]() ![]()

RE: a few pics
Hi,
I find these all to be sound and quality shots. Obviously, with a higher end camera and with extensive post processing more could be done with the finish and impact. But then, it is these sort of issues, which tend to impel us forward with improved equipment and technique. From these shots it is clear that you shoot interesting compositions. And it is always true that some of us will be better at composition and others at post processing, and so forth. As with any set of craft skills, you build on your strengths and work on your weaknesses. With regard to post processing, I am sure you will enjoy what advanced post processors can do. But then there will be some method that catches your eye and you will have a go, as we say. Geoff Geoff |

Hello Doberman - you need to think a little more about composition, for example the sloping horizon on the first picture, the tree obscuring the plane on the 3rd. Whilst they are all records of the place/time they could have been better. Take your(?) boys in photo one, as a viewer I'm confused if the photo is the scenery or the boys?. If it is of the children you should have moved in closer, if it is of the landscape it would have been nicer to ask the boys to sit together looking out across the bay with their backs to the camera, this would have pulled the eye into the photo rather than stopping at the children. Moving onto your last photo, here you need to 'work' your camera. Looking at the exif data you have it set on auto exposure and due to the bright sunlight there are a lot of over exposed areas in the picture (common problem with water on bright days). Can I suggest you try to understand how to adjust the exposure manually and use the histogram to help 'see' the exposure. On the up side it's good to see a variation and with a little thought and practice you'll soon be taking better pictures. hth Colin |

RE: a few pics
Those were obviously shots where you didn't do that much orchestration (like for example how a weeding photographer marshals groups together).
The boys for example might have been a bit difficult to organise into a posed position in that shot of the beach, when the tide was out. Plus, I am also comfortably amazed at how relatively effortlessly I set my camera up on manual settings. (In earlier times, I would get into a flap and invariably lose the shot). But this has all come down to taking test shots and adjusting over again. Hope this proves to be some encouragement, too. Geoff |
