this is the shot i took prior to having a play with photoshop maybe you could give me some ideas wasnt really sure what i wanted to do but gave it a shot anyway!

I've been thinking about this shot.

A most interesting subject, and worth some work. I think it is going to be best to try treat different parts of the image differently.


It might be a candidate for dodging and burning... a subject which I learnt something of from Frank (mrtommoe).

I might even pluck up some courage, myself, and have a go.

I went for some very conventional types of post processing; I in fact used my standard post processing repertoire.

I cropped and tone mapped. I adjusted contrast and lightness. I applied some local contrast and mid-tone sharp enhancements and finally I lightly sharpened the picture.

Which post prosessing software did you use Geoff?

I used the Gimp, but I can assure you that similar quality can be achieved with PhotShop or other advanced pp software.

Also, and I do have to stress this, a result could have been achieved using Picasa that would have been nearly as polished. You don't have fancy sharpening tools and mid tone or local contrast enhancement, but these modifications made only a smaller contribution,
