Tree Stumps
These photos were taken last Wednesday at Epping Forest, too. They make me think of the statues on Easter Island.

The stumps remind of the petryfied trees I saw in the states some 40 years ago. Thanks for the memory.

Yes, there is an entire avenue of these stumps, where a fire-break was cut in the forest. Being oaks, they weather in this petrified-looking way.

My guess would be around ten years. Because they are trimmed to a height they do not effect the viability of the fire break. And I guess because the trees were "specimens", the idea indeed was to enhance the view.

we used to have some petrified tree stumps in the old Glencruitten forest, but they got stolen a few years ago!
