RE: Just Jane
Mr Corblimy sir - I was a little disappointed that they didn't roll her out of the hanger due to repairs, not sure I can afford the cost of sitting in on a taxy run and the talk of putting her back in the air has been going on for years but I can't see it happening anytime soon, so she'll still be there to view for a while yet. Incidentally they have a special 'photography' day sometime in March (check their web site for details
http://www.lincsaviation.co.uk/ )

I'm impressed by the processing. Have you used tone mapping or hdr?
These I find are inspirational shots.
Hi Geoff no tone mapping on these just hdr, but on the version below I dropped a textured layer of the photo and dodged and burnt various part of the background. I also clone off some of these sky lights. I think it makes a great desktop backround Wink

RE: Just Jane
I am dumbstruck by the presence of these WW2 bombers. I was born after the war, but the droning sound of these prop driven planes is something that we still get to hear something of on August Bank Holidays.

I will make a mental note of your post processing methods, too. Doubtless there will be some piece of work that I will want to"tweak" that little bit more!

The best days are when she runs all four engines and taxy's out to the pan and back before running up each pair (inners and outers) in unison. This happens almost every weekend through the summer, and if you have never heard four Roll Royce Merlins up close , then you are in for a treatSmile
There is talk of preparing her for flight again, but personally I think she serves the public better by being accessible.
I have had the pleasure of being on board her for one of these engine runs and taxy sessions, I sat at the radio operators desk by the main Spar and could only imagine what it was like for aircrew in Bomber Command during WWII.

Apologies for the image below taken on my old Sony Cybershot last year.

If you like 2nd world war planes, when you are at Cayton Bay there is an aviation museum at Elvington with Hurricanes & Spitfires as exhibits Shy .
The airfield is about an hour from Cayton Bay.

RE: Just Jane
I know of Elvington. There is a dh Mosquito there and also a compostite recreation of a Handley-Page Halifax too. I doubt if I will visit in July, as I will be flying up there from North Weald airfield in March, a friend of mine who owns an aircraft has asked me to accompany him when he visits.
Wife would rather me keep my aviation interests seperate from our holidays!

RE: Just Jane
And you should. I started in a simple way and I may have cursed a few times on the way. But it's worth it!
