Just Jane
Today I went over to the Lincolnshire Aviation Museum at East Kirkby and photographed (amongst other things) the Lancaster bomber recently feature in the BBC TV series Dr Who.

RE: Just Jane
Geoff - I used all three of my lens, the wide shot was taken using a 10-20mm wide angle. We had a good day but it was spoilt a little as the Lanc had an engine in bits and they couldn't take it out the hanger + that annoying scaffolding on the far wing around the engine housing.

RE: Just Jane
It still impresses me. But now you mention these things, I can see the scaffolding... I guess I was mesmerized by the plane, and somehow didn't notice it.

RE: Just Jane
Hi Colin, I've just been on your flickr page looking at the images of the Dakota and the Lancaster.
I'm impressed by the processing. Have you used tone mapping or hdr? These I find are inspirational shots. Geoff |

RE: Just Jane
For me the trip to East Kirkby is just over 2 and a half hours, but there is nowhere you can get up close and personal to a Lancaster as here.
The best days are when she runs all four engines and taxy's out to the pan and back before running up each pair (inners and outers) in unison. This happens almost every weekend through the summer, and if you have never heard four Roll Royce Merlins up close , then you are in for a treat ![]() There is talk of preparing her for flight again, but personally I think she serves the public better by being accessible. I have had the pleasure of being on board her for one of these engine runs and taxy sessions, I sat at the radio operators desk by the main Spar and could only imagine what it was like for aircrew in Bomber Command during WWII. Denis Born analogue... but the whole world has gone digital! Equipment: just a Nikon L120...and a tripod |
