Simple Adjustments to Contrast and Brightness
I am going to demonstrate usage of the sort of basic adjustment dialogue that is present in all post processors. In this instance, I am using the Gimp. There are lots of fancier techniques than this for adjusting Contrast and Brightness.
The Brightness and Contrast control is available via the Colours drop down. I want to make the image more "crisp". This involves me in reducing the brightness and increasing the contrast. My decision involves enhancing what I believe is the subject of the picture; and I consider that to be the textures of the fast flowing water; I would like to make it appear that the water is more cold and dangerous; this is maybe improving the dramatic impact. Notice the preview check box; that can be clicked on and off for before and after comparisons of the settings experimented with. ![]()
