How to callibrate your monitor
Doing this was certainly not first on my list, when I got more serious about photography. You can adjust settings on your monitor or within the settings available within you computer operating system; I have an NVidia graphics card and settings adjustments are in a utility provided by them.

I should think it is better, though, to tune your monitor via its own settings. I own a moderately expensive Dell and it maybe is harder to adjust some other monitors. I will confess, though, that I did not find it easy to make the adjustments.

I used the following site and what you do is play until you get all the shades of grey exactly as they say.

As a footnote, I can say that I have early stage cataracts. Claude Monet did not produce lower grade artwork for having cataracts. But there may be some distortions that arise from that. But I think that because monitor calibration is about adjusting the spread of grey scales, I think that cataracts is not an issue. I may however produce slightly unbalanced colour images, but not because of the grey scale balance.

If someone else has calibrated their monitor, it would be cool if they could explain their method.
