Thomson and Thompson (original French: Dupont et Dupond)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomson_and_Thompson

Quote:Thomson and Thompson (original French: Dupont et Dupond) are fictional characters in The Adventures of Tintin, the series of classic Belgian comic books written and illustrated by Hergé. Thomson and Thompson are detectives of Scotland Yard, and are as incompetent as they are necessary comic relief. While the two are apparently not related as they have different surnames, they are twice referred to as twins or brothers in the original language version of the series.[1] In any case, the two detectives look like identical twins and can only be told apart by the shape of their moustaches (Thomson's moustache flares out a tiny bit on each side at the bottom).
Channel 4: a 1990 episode

You see they are mutual look alikes rather than being twins. Plus they are sort of joined at the hip.

They are so totally dumbarsed, too. (Excuse my French)

So you think a bowler hat, fancy cane, and fancy way of talking might suit me?

Probably!

RE: Thomson and Thompson (original French: Dupont et Dupond)
Thinking a bit more, I don't really consider myself to be English. I have a lot of Anglo Irish blood in me and that is very largely of Norman French origins. The Normans settled from the Danelaw, Scottish and Shetland Island Viking Settlements and other parts of the Viking world. They originally started to encroach and settle the Normandy Peninsular in the more or less standard viking raider mode.

All of that ethnicity is very widely mixed throughout the British Isles; but in my case it is a just that bit more concentrated.

But whatever! Your joke about the continental stereotype of English manhood is a good one.
