Whilst this shot is not immediately obvious in all of its detail it is nonetheless of excellently composed and exposed and is of historical interest.

Dennis has used the Contact Us facility to give me more detail. And he was by the way had a hard time with virtual denial of service issues we have been suffering from.

Quote:Hawker Hart at RAFM Hendon.

A light bomber with a speed greater than most fighter aircraf of its era.

It was an exceptional basic design by Sydney Camm, (who later designed the Hurricane) and the rest of the Hawker team were able to develop later versions.

The Audax, Demon, Hardy, Hind and the Hector all show clearly how important the Hart influence was on a whole era of British aircraft design. A number of these later types saw limited operational use in World War Two.

This aircraft hangs in the'Milestones of Flight' hall at Hendon.

Geoff, I still am unable to post a new thread, PM, email or reply to any post.

Denis.

Denis shows a very studied attitude in his photography and I would also recommend his site at http://www.wartime-airfields.com

Thanks for choosing my image as the POTW , I really appreciate it as I am by no means what I call a good photographer!

The Hawker Hart although being advanced at the time of its design and early construction was soon obsolete by the mid 1930's although examples staggered on in service until the start of WWII. It was never used operationally in WWII being completely outclassed by contemporary aircraft. The chap in the rear cockpit was classed as an Observer and would literally do that..observe! He had the use of a Vickers K gun or a Lewis light MG on a Scarf ring that enabled the gun mount to cover most likely angles of attack by an enemy fighter.
I have a love of most things Hawker designed and built, The Hurricane being the true winner of the Battle Of Britain to the extremely beautiful and pleasing Hunter jet fighter.
Thanks for the interestSmile

Denis.

Hi Dennis,

I have just emailed you on some of the issues you are experiencing. I think you are experiencing a caching issue within an Internet Explorer installation. There are a lot of pictures on these BCUG pages!

With regard you work, it has visual impact; and that can happen "by accident". But I think that impact is by design mostly. Plus I would say you have mastered the elements of exposure. There are lots and lots of little tweaks that can be done by those who know how to do them; but even so your picture has good tonal qualities. These tonal qualities then are probably as result of mastering exposure.

There are some us who have difficulties in getting the "camera" stage of things working so well for us. And then post processing can repair work and give us some diagnostics as to how to improve the camera craft. But I think you may well already have a lot of it "put together", as it were.
