RE: IE8 and mybb forums
Ok, Thanks Geoff, a case of not seeing the wood for the trees!
I must say this firefox seems to be quite good, I will probably select it as default.
Thats me sorted, now to read the rest of the forums topics over the next few nights. So expect to see a few more posts from me anytime soon !

In layman's terms it means the server can automatically switch themes to possibly match Internet Explorer more closely or display things more appropriately if the user is viewing form an iphone or android.

Unfortunately, I can only earmark such a project, I can't start it any time soon.
Well, I've had a little think this afternoon and I've found some good reason for going quickly on this installation work. I have the plugin installed now, too.

You see a duplicate template set can be deployed when Internet Explorer is identified, I can have a special notice appearing.

I think that IE8 plays up most when the server is loaded up some. When the load is light it tends to work, I think. I think IE9 is the "best behaved" of them, too. So it is best that we inform IE users right form the moment they join, that they should think about switching to FireFox and the risks that are ever present for them in using IE.

Moreover, when we have users experiencing difficulties in their IE installations, that itself increases the server load and the forum slides into a sort of "Slough of Despond".

The Android and iphone thing is quite practical, too. It needs an image light version without a sidebar. Or indeed the sidebar could be used instead of the main panel (One forum system I know of works in this exact ways of just listing the last posts).

I still need to research and plan a little. Please add Thank Yous if we want me to do this and will help out with keeping up posts on the forum.
