IE8 and mybb forums
Dennis tells me that he googled 'Stack Overload at line 1822' and found that there is a well known issue.
As is usual I did my best (ever so politely) to tell him what utter krapp Internet Exploder is. I will make an added comment in the automated introductory post to the effect that IE8 has a bug in it... they are just so dammed cavalier about the international standards. Geoff |

RE: IE8 and mybb forums
Hi Denis,
The NEW REPLY button underneath the blue bar will give you the clean or virgin reply option. I guess the buttons in the blue bar get shortened names, because there are so many of them. But the mouse over or tooltips on those two buttons say, a) "Quote this message in a reply" b) "Quote this post" The first one, (a), copies the post, places it in quotes and preserves the user name and detail of the person who is quoted. The second option, (b) and with a + sign, copies it to clipboard and therefore lets you quote it all in another thread. I think you were trying to use the first one, called "REPLY", on the button itself... confusing, huh? We as members get used to the other forum software and then have to adapt to the different dialects which does get a little problematic, admittedly. Each forum software bundle is slightly different in how it handles these facilities and that is largely because of how forum etiquette has evolved within the different developer communities. So it is a matter of using that NEW REPLY button, I think. Also, I will in a little while, write a short piece down in the BCUG Useful Links category on the different forum software cultures and attributes. But vBulletin is amongst the best but it costs (!!); and myBB is in many respects the next best thing to vBulletin. Geoff |

RE: IE8 and mybb forums
Excuse me for all the technical gobbeldy gook in this link http://mods.mybb.com/view/ua-theme
In layman's terms it means the server can automatically switch themes to possibly match Internet Explorer more closley or display things more appropriately if the user is viewing form an iphone or android. Unfortunately, I can only earmark such a project, I can't start it any time soon. Geoff |
